Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov: Türkiye ranks among Bulgaria’s leading economic partners

25.03.2025

Türkiye is traditionally one of Bulgaria’s leading economic partners in the field of trade and investment. The promotion of economic cooperation and trade relations is important for both countries. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov when he met with Ӧmer Bolat, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye. Promising areas for bilateral cooperation that Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov singled out were innovation, digital infrastructure, and green and low-carbon energy technologies. The discussion covered bilateral trade that reached a record level of Euro 7.7 billion in 2024.

The meeting in the Prime Minister’s Office noted the excellent cooperation in a number of sectors. Türkiye is not only our neighbor but also an ally in NATO and an important partner in areas such as transport, energy supplies, trade, and the fight against terrorism and against illegal migration, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov pointed out. As he said, cooperation between Bulgaria and Türkiye in migration matters is of particular importance not just for Bulgaria but also for the whole European Union. Potentials for interaction in defense industry were likewise discussed at the meeting.

Vis-à-vis the intensive traffic at the border crossings between the two countries, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov emphasized the need for the two to make an effort to simplify the border control formalities and to increase the traffic throughput at the crossing points on either side of the national border. Alongside, Mr. Jeliazkov underlined the commitments to which Bulgaria sticks and which arise from its full accession to the Schengen area on 1 January 2025.
