“Bulgaria has always supported the European perspective for the Western Balkan countries,” said Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at his meeting with the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović. The Prime Minister expressed Bulgaria’s firm support for Montenegro’s European integration as he emphasized the country’s considerable progress along the path to EU membership. “Bulgaria continues to share its experience and expertise in the accession negotiation process and provides institutional and technical assistance to Montenegro,” Mr. Jeliazkov stressed.
The discussion emphasized the defense cooperation between Bulgaria and Montenegro. “I welcome the excellent relations between our two countries in the field of defense, both within NATO and bilaterally. This partnership is particularly important in the context of the current global situation that confronts security with new challenges,” the Prime Minister said. He highly appreciated Montenegro’s commitment to the establishment of and contribution to the NATO Multinational Battle Group quartered in Bulgaria. In this context, the discussion touched on the possibility of training Montenegrin military in Bulgarian higher military schools as this would help improve the skills of the military and strengthen bilateral partnership in the area of security.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov informed President Jakov Milatović about the potential of the Bulgarian military-industrial complex and then they discussed possible opportunities for cooperation in this area. The Prime Minister and the President discussed the war in Ukraine and the need to achieve lasting peace.
