Prime Minister Kiril Petkov joined the EU leaders’ summit meeting with US President Joe Biden. The meeting took place within the European Council regular meeting. The session focused on support to Ukraine and the strengthening of trans-Atlantic cooperation in response to Russia’s aggression.
Bulgaria has taken the position that Russia’s war against Ukraine is an enormous conflict of major global implications. Prime Minister Kiril Petkov holds the opinion that the EU and NATO member states should remain united and determined in their common response to the unprovoked Russian aggression. International support for Ukraine’s resilience should continue. A priority for Bulgaria is to provide needed humanitarian aid and clearance to the people who flee the war to safe destinations. As of now, Bulgaria has offered shelter to over 50,000 Ukrainians. Bulgaria is one of the countries that most quickly organized an operating coordination group and sectoral units to address the situation.
