Prime Minister: Bulgaria proves ability and capacity to guard European borders

10.03.2025

Bulgaria has proved its ability and capacity to guard European borders and has exceeded its partners’ expectations. Our accession to Schengen is a commitment; challenges are yet to come and we must be prepared to meet them in a professional way. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at the awarding ceremony for officers of the Border Police General Directorate for their contribution to the integration of Bulgaria to the Schengen area. The Prime Minister emphasized that as a full member of Schengen, Bulgaria is part of a common shared area where the principle of free movement is a value and is important for both citizens and economic actors.

Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov pointed out that today’s ceremony is a sign of recognition and gratitude to the Border Police officers who perform their duty to protect the borders with dedication. The Prime Minister decorated Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, Director of the Border Police General Directorate, by the MoI honorary distinction “For Valor and Merit”, first degree. Over 80 awards and distinctions were presented at the ceremony.
