14.11.2023

Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov participated in a working dinner in Copenhagen together with colleagues, members of the European Council and the President of the European Council Charles Michel. The gathering is part of a series of discussions of the leaders of the member states on the EU priorities for the next institutional cycle. The meetings are hosted by Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen and Zagreb. The other participants in today’s discussion were the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Ireland, Latvia, Finland and Sweden.

The pivot of the discussion was the EU Strategic Agenda to be agreed upon in the summer of 2024. The meeting is a continuation of the preparations that started in Granada for the meeting of the European Council due in December. The discussions focused on how to find consolidating solutions to ensure capacity to the EU to act and achieve its goals in the context of global challenges and further EU enlargement.

The EU Strategic Agenda priority areas are as follows: security and defense; resilience and competitiveness; energy; migration; global engagement; and EU enlargement. At this stage, the aim is to deepen the debate on these issues in the context of the changes that need to be made to achieve a stronger Union both internally and globally.
