“Azerbaijan is our valuable partner. Our cooperation is strong not only in the energy sector but also in economy, education and culture.” These were the words of welcome of Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov as he met Prof. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic, in the Council of Ministers building.
The focus of the discussion was the Greece-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector (ICGB) that went into operation last year. The ICGB is of primary importance for the diversification of natural gas sources for Bulgaria as well as for the entire region of Central and Southeastern Europe. The ICGB supplies Bulgaria with the full amount of the Azerbaijani natural gas as contracted.
The Prime Minister pointed out that it is in the Bulgarian interest to have opportunities for the broader development of bilateral relations in the field of transport connectivity, which would help facilitate trade between Europe and Asia.
Acad. Nikolai Denkov and Prof. Sahiba Gafarova noted, inter alia, the good cooperation in education. The Speaker shared her impressions of the Center for Azerbaijani Language and Culture with the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” which she visited earlier today. The Center has been operating for a decade and offers an opportunity to many Bulgarian students to get familiar with the language and culture of Azerbaijan.
