Prime Minister Stefan Yanev met Her Excellency Mrs. Aylin Sekizkök, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bulgaria. They emphasized the traditionally good relations between the two countries and the opportunities for their constructive further development in the future.
Ambassador Aylin Sekizkök described Bulgaria as an important ally and trusted neighbor. She laid emphasis on the potential for more effective development of bilateral relations. Fruitful cooperation to overcome the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis was cited as an example of good neighborly relations.
Bulgaria’s Prime Minister told Ambassador Sekizkök that the current main priority is to hold the upcoming parliamentary elections on 11 July. Mr. Yanev brought to the Ambassador’s attention the challenges that Bulgaria is confronted with in this context and availed of the opportunity to thank for the Turkish authorities’ collaboration in the efficient preparations for holding the election in the territory of Turkey.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister and the Ambassador noted that Bulgaria and Turkey work well together in a number of areas such as migration and border security. Emphasis was placed on the need to sustain the effort and to continue the beneficial work to that effect to prevent any migratory pressure on our common border.
The meeting gave particular attention to the substantial potential for the expansion of trade and economic relations and to the opportunities to attract heavier Turkish investments in a number of sectors of mutual interest, including the high-tech sector.
