Mideast situation poses no immediate threat to Bulgaria

14.04.2024

There is no immediate threat to Bulgaria’s national security. This was reported to Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev who called a working meeting this morning. The meeting was attended by Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Dimitrova, Chief of Defense Emil Eftimov and officials from the security agencies.

The government closely monitors how the situation develops and is prepared to undertake further action, if necessary. “Our main task is to save the life and health the Bulgarian citizens in the region,” Prime Minister Glavchev said. So far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not been approached with requests for evacuation. At this stage, there is no need to call up a meeting of the Security Council with the Council of Ministers.
