The Council of Ministers will put in place a Coordinating Tool to stamp on illicit drug import and dealing in Bulgaria, said Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov before the start of the cabinet sitting today. The New Coordinating Tool will be complementary to the National Drugs Council and will focus on large-scale drug trafficking and dealing.
“We will try to solve this huge problem. It is important and affects the lives of an extremely great number of people,” the Prime Minister said. He recalled reports of last days about the sale of a new synthetic drug, which is about a hundred times more harmful than heroin. It is offered as a mixture with other drugs and an overdose is certain to kill.
The Ministry of Interior will have a leading role in the Coordinating Tool. The General Directorate Combatting Organized Crime, the State Agency for National Security, the DG Border Police, the National Customs Agency, the National Investigation Service, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of e-Government will be involved as much of the sales are done online. Other institutions will be invited, the National Association of the Municipalities in Bulgaria, inter alia. “The local authorities can help in this activity as the fight against addictions and the organization around the municipality-run schools fall within the duties of the mayors,” the Prime Minister explained.
The Prime Minister congratulated the Ministry of Interior on the results achieved in the fight against illicit migration and reported that over the past 24 hours 805 individuals were detained on the Bulgarian-Turkish border and another 105 were detained inland.
