Bulgaria can count on Germany’s support for its accession to the Eurozone and for the lifting of land border controls within Schengen. The assurance was given by Germany’s Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz when he spoke with Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov in Brussels. Acad. Denkov had a tête-à-tête with Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, who likewise assured him that Bulgaria could count on the Finnish support for the Eurozone and Schengen.
Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov familiarized partners with the country’s fiscal landscape, low foreign debt and low deficit. “We expect that inflation will stay within the Maastricht rules in yearend. We work for the date of 1 January 2025,” the Prime Minister confirmed regarding the Eurozone.
Within the framework of the European Council meeting in Brussels Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov discussed the national priorities with the Heads of State of Renew Europe. The Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Belgium, Slovenia and Estonia – Mark Rutte, Alexander De Croo, Robert Golob and Kaja Kallas – likewise pledged their support for Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone and the lifting of the Schengen land border controls. Acad. Nikolai Denkov recalled that these countries are known as being among the most cautious ones, that they have always been careful with their budgets and therefore their appraisal is of particular importance.
Regarding the agreement reached in the Council on support for Ukraine, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov expressed satisfaction with the final result. ‘It is good to be united. There were no divergences on the important issues,” said the Prime Minister and underscored the contribution of the President of the European Council Charles Michel.
