Dragomir Zakov was elected Minister of Defense by the YES vote of 184 MPs at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly (the Parliament) convened at the request of the Council of Ministers pursuant to Art. 78 (4) of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Dragomir Zakov is the most knowledgeable man in the field of defense in the current situation. He is the most clear-sighted person overall about the security system within the European Union, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said. Further the Prime Minister announced that 200 Bulgarians had been successfully evacuated from the Ukrainian capital via the secured green corridor and thanked the Bulgarian services and diplomatic teams for their excellent work.
A war is being fought in Ukraine. In recent months NATO made unprecedented efforts to keep Russia at the negotiating table. The war broke out at a moment when the door to dialog was absolutely wide open, the new Defense Minister Dragomir Zakov said.
