Strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan will continue to develop vigorously with a special focus on the expansion of energy and transport relations. This was discussed by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov at a meeting in the Zagulba Presidential Residence in Baku with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the economic cooperation between the two countries and the energy issues dominate our common agenda. “We consider Azerbaijan an important partner for the diversification of natural gas supplies and for the increase of energy security in South and Southeast Europe,” Kiril Petkov stressed. As he said, owing to its geostrategic location Bulgaria has an important role in the facilitation of energy, transport and trade connectivity of the region. The key role of the completion of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) was singled out to illustrate his statement, as were the efforts that this Government had engaged in to that effect and the importance of the LNG terminal near Alexandroupolis where Bulgaria holds a 20% share.
Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and President Ilham Aliyev talked in Baku in the context of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan as marked a few weeks ago.
