11.11.2024

The USA remains committed to the partnership process for Bulgaria’s accession to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). That became clear during the meeting of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev with US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Adam Hunter. The discussion highlighted Bulgaria’s progress, especially in recent weeks.

“Rules shall be abided by. There are objective criteria that we seek and we will make every effort to meet,” Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at the meeting. The Prime Minister emphasized that Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a special awareness campaign to respond to the still high number of rejected applications. Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has set up a taskforce to push the visa issue.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev emphasized, inter alia, the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United States and the priorities on the caretaker government’s agenda. Mr. Glavchev pointed out that abidance with the Constitution and laws and the fight against corruption are clear-cut red lines that the government steadfastly pursues. The Prime Minister noted the elections that were held on 27 October and the recognition by PACE international observers of their professional management.
