Ministers are to audit their ministries’ excessive spending over the past few weeks and months in keeping with an order given by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov at the opening of the new cabinet’s first regular sitting. He referred to media reports stating that in its last days the caretaker government disbursed extremely large amounts, amounting to billions, while it did not make it clear whether it was appropriate, efficient and effective to do so.
Acad. Denkov demanded inspections for delayed procedures that can cause serious losses. “This is to the detriment of people and businesses. These are not just figures. These are resources that we use for one activity or another and if they are lost, we will lose the opportunity to implement the projects,” the Prime Minister said firmly.
The Prime Minister called on the cabinet members to assist the Minister of Finance to draw up rapidly this year’s budget. The appointment of the teams of ministries and the finalization of the program of government are among the cabinet’s operational priorities. “Please act with speed and determination on these tasks as we are running out of time. No one will give us one hundred days. And what we do should not be at the expense of quality,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Academician Denkov wished the ministers every success. “I am sure we can be successful providing it is teamwork.”
