Bulgaria advanced an idea of a multinational maritime coordination center to ensure the safety of shipping in the western part of the Black Sea and offered to host this center. This is what Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said after today’s Meeting on Peace and Security for Ukraine in Paris where he is at an invitation of Emmanuel Macron, President of France. The Bulgarian idea is for the center to be engaged in continual surveillance of the sea and early warning of potential threats and hostile operations and to strengthen the resilience of the critical undersea infrastructure in the Black Sea.
“The purpose is to draw up guidelines for shipping and to exercise aerial and water monitoring on the critical infrastructure and to detect any potential hostile actions in the Black Sea,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said after the meeting that he attended. As he put it, it is extremely important to restart commercial shipping as it affects not just the coastal countries but also the entire East-West trade. The Prime Minister pointed out that the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Group is a good example of how coordination between the coastal countries can contribute to the effort to strengthen security, safety, stability and freedom of shipping in the Black Sea.
Today’s meeting in Paris discussed the ceasefire in Ukraine in the context of the establishment of a robust and lasting peace with all security guarantees that Ukraine must receive, including guarantees for the security of Europe. Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov noted the format of today’s meeting that is attended by leaders from all Europe and international partners. As he put it, this is indicative of the strength of the cause that is served and of the path chosen towards a lasting and just peace with respect for all principles of international law.
