“The strongest manifestation of the art of diplomacy is the ability to choose the timing to pronounce a statement that will reverse a position and to remain silent when everyone else around is shouting. Let's not turn Schengen into a bargaining chip to achieve short-term and dubious media and political fame,” Prime Minister Galab Donev said at the opening of the cabinet day. The Prime Minister was convinced Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area would issue from work, lawmaking included. In this context, the bills concerning the reforms under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), drafted by the Caretaker Government, are on the agenda for a planned floor discussion in Parliament, Galab Donev noted.
“My question time in Parliament on the Schengen issue is a PR trick that has been offered as a straw to a drowning man since Sunday night. The focus of the work of the Council of Ministers today will be to hear the caretaker cabinet ministers and your proposals that are intended to bring wellbeing to the people of Bulgaria”, the Prime Minister noted as he addressed the members of the cabinet. The agenda of today’s sitting will include a draft bill amending the Money Laundering Act. “The Ministry of Finance is working hard to draft a bill amending the Bulgarian National Bank Act and a bill to amend the Insurance Code. This is the package of legislative measures related to the preparations for the accession of Bulgaria to the Eurozone", Galab Donev emphasized. Yesterday, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the European Commission and the President of the Eurogroup on the mintage of euro coins in Bulgaria. “In a word – we are doing our job; may the Members of Parliament do theirs,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
