Fist fighting cannot be a reason in politics, least of all in art; it is accepted in boxing alone. This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said as he commented the „performance“ around the National Theater in Sofia yesterday evening. On an order from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Interior is to produce a report on how it acted in this situation. “I would like to read a detailed description of what happened and of how the officers, especially the commanding staff, performed their duty in line with their powers,” Mr. Glavchev said further. The Prime Minister said that theatregoers who had bought tickets for a production are not to be denied access. “And it’s not just that: the rights of Bulgarian citizens shall not be encroached upon,” Mr. Glavchev said firmly. To a media question about the unstable political situation in Bulgaria, the Prime Minister agreed that it greatly impacts the public. “I called on politicians for humbleness and de-escalation of tensions so that they sit down and find the right tone in order to form a regular government,” the Prime Minister recalled.
Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev focused, inter alia, on the discussions within the informal meeting of the European Council in Budapest. The Prime Minister noted that the USA is the EU’s most important strategic partner and it is important to take proactive steps to continue building on these relations. Dimitar Glavchev specifically highlighted the issues of Ukraine and the Middle East. “The most natural aspiration is to enjoy peace which, however, should be fair, based on the UN Charter and international law,” Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said. Significant areas of cooperation between the EU and the US as indicated by the Prime Minister were the businesses, high technologies, security and defense and the fight against disinformation.
In the answer to the question about Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area free of land border control, Prime Minister Dimitar Glachev emphasized that while there are very good indications about this, there should be no rush into comments on the matter. We are together with Romania and what has been published about Romania – at what phase the process is, the same holds good of Bulgaria, Mr. Glavchev said.
