We will not allow an increase of electricity tariffs for household consumers after the complete liberalization of the electricity market. This is what Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov said before the opening of the cabinet day in response to concerns of substantial increase of the bills caused by the draft amendment to the Energy Act.
“I want to assure all Bulgarian citizens that this will not happen. A pricing model is provided for to keep the electricity price levels for the households until mid-2024,” the Prime Minister explained. Beyond that date, any change shall be subject to a decision of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. Even then, the increase will not be higher than a one-digit percentage figure, Acad. Nikolai Denkov emphasized.
The amendments to the Energy Act were subjected to public discussion by the Ministry of Energy. It closed on 26 August 2023. The amendments will be submitted to the National Assembly early in September as part of the final pieces of legislation related to the Recovery and Resilience Plan reforms. The Prime Minister appealed to the Members of Parliament to approve them as per the agreed schedule in order to remove the obstacles to the completion of this stage of the Plan.
