The government has shown how it will work in the future as it makes concrete commitments that it can meet and as it seeks the best solutions to problems through negotiations. This was stated by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov at the opening of today’s cabinet sitting. The Prime Minister thanked the negotiating teams of the two protests for the constructive talks yesterday.
“All the decisions that were taken – both in the field of energy and in the field of agriculture – concur with the goals and priorities of the government, and there was no need for the cabinet to step back,” Acad. Nikolai Denkov said. As a reaction to problems that were piling up for years, steps were agreed yesterday that would have benefit both to the government and the people. The commitments made by the cabinet will be laid down in concrete documents that will be signed by members of the government so that it is clear who will meet them.
In keeping with the commitments made yesterday, today the cabinet sitting provided additional BGN 63 million for farmers. The disbursement will be sped up to make the funds available to the farmers as soon as possible. Work is underway on the sunflower seeds imports from Ukraine that will be allowed only after Bulgaria’s quota is specified. In this way, the Bulgarian farmers’ produce will enjoy priority on the market while the oil refineries will have sufficient input. The state treasury will get revenue and customers will buy vegetable oil in the food stores at an affordable price. Regarding energy, efforts are made to institutionalize an operator for the conversion of the coalmining regions the purpose of which is to prepare these regions for the development of new economic operations.
Our talks yesterday with the delegates from the energy sector and with the farmers show that the tension that we all feel in the media and in the streets is an expression of the amassed huge distrust in the political class as these people have been deceived many times over the years, Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov stated. The situation as it is calls for a very fast response by the government to show that the commitments made by the cabinet are met.
