Economy and security: main shared points between Bulgaria and Turkey

07.07.2023

A regional round table will try to help solve the most pressing problems of investors in Northeast Bulgaria. It is expected that Turkish companies that are among the largest employers in this part of the country will be the most active participants. In addition to the local authorities, members of the ministries of education, economy, labor and social policy will be invited. The focus will be on human resource development – the vocational training and retraining of staff for the industries in the region.

This was agreed on by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye H. E. Mrs. Aylin Sekizkök. They discussed the main difficulties facing Turkish business in Bulgaria and the possibilities to overcome them. The agenda of the discussion covered the visa regime and the shortage of skilled work force coupled with the complicated procedures of bringing workers from third countries. Ambassador Sekizkök expressed the interest of the Turkish business in involvement in upgrading the Bulgarian defense industry and supplies to the Bulgarian army.

The Prime Minister and the Ambassador devoted special attention to the common border guarding duty and the minimization of illicit migration as one of the main priorities of the Bulgarian government. The Turkish side made a commitment to help actively suppress the migration flow to Bulgaria. On his part, the Prime Minister pledged to seek ways and means to ease the transit traffic of Turkish citizens via Bulgaria especially in the summer when the traffic is particularly intense.
