Bulgaria has responded promptly to the appeal for help by the Republic of North Macedonia so that it may meet the major challenges it faces in the energy sector. This statement was made by Prime Minister Galab Donev after he met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevski. Bulgaria’s Prime Minister pointed out that a joint workgroup that is scheduled to start operating next Wednesday is tasked to actively examine in detail the opportunities for cooperation in the sectors of electricity and natural gas transportation. The electricity export from Bulgaria to the Republic of North Macedonia will be one of the focuses of the workgroup discussions.
Arrangements will be made to reserve natural gas storage capacities in the Underground Gas Storage facility in Chiren (UGS Chiren) so that the Republic of North Macedonia can take full advantage of its share in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal that is under construction in Alexandroupolis, Greece, Prime Minister Galab Donev said further. In his view, this will make possible for the LNG supplies to be balanced and for the Republic of North Macedonia to draw the amounts that it needs on a daily basis while the country will be spared additional difficulties providing it is unable to utilize the total LNG amount.
Also, Prime Minister Galab Donev noted that today’s talks reaffirmed the positive assessment of the prerequisites created to promote dialog between the two countries. We will work consistently to deepen constructive cooperation in all areas of mutual interest while we will seek to cover all areas included in the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation as well as all clauses agreed under the protocols of the Intergovernmental Commission, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister said further.
