17.05.2024

Bulgaria supports the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine to convene the first Global Peace Summit for Ukraine. On this occasion, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev met with the Ambassador of Ukraine H. E. Mrs. Olesia Ilashchuk and with the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation H. E. Mr. Raymund Furrer.

The forum which will be held on 15 and 16 June in Switzerland should draw up a clear roadmap based on the principles of the Peace Formula initiative of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the UN Charter and international law. President Zelenskyy’s initiative is a conceptual plan whose aim is to end the war in Ukraine and to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace where the territorial integrity of Ukraine is the underlying principle. Bulgaria is involved in four of the initiative’s appropriate workgroups: Food Security, Energy Security, Justice and co-chairs Protection of the Environment together with Germany and Finland.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said firmly that Bulgaria would continue to support Ukraine in its just cause to uphold its right to freedom and independence and to choose for itself its own security safeguards. Bulgaria remains fully committed to the strong and joint response of NATO, the European Union and the international democratic community to the Russian military aggression against Ukraine. Political contacts between Bulgaria and Ukraine are active and maintained both at bilateral level and within various international formats.
