Georgi Glushkov was born on January 10, 1960 in Tryavna. From the first to the seventh grade, he studied at ‘Petko Rachev Slaveykov’ School in the town of Tryavna. After that, he continued his education in Yambol. He obtained a Master's degree in Accounting and Control at the University of Economics in Varna.
His professional career as a basketball player began in the team of ‘Laskov’ (Yambol), and he then played for CSKA, ‘Balkan’ and ‘Akademik’ (Varna), with which he became a champion. Just 17 years old, he was a national basketball player, taking part in four European championships - in 1979, 1985, 1989 and 1991. Mr. Glushkov was the first Bulgarian and the first Eastern European to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he joined the team of Phoenix Suns.
After his stay in the USA, he continued his career in Italy and Spain.
Since 2011, he has been the President of the Bulgarian Basketball Federation. He has been a member of the Executive Bureau of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and the Board of FIBA Europe for two consecutive terms. In the period 2018 – 2023, he was the President of the FIBA Europe Technical Commission.
He is fluent in English and Italian.
